TMD AND TMJ THERAPY
in Marina Del Rey

Yeo Family Dental Group believes in providing patients throughout Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Culver City, and Venice with undivided dental care and attention.

We have extensive experience treating patients with joint disorders. We are aware that more and more people are suffering from temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). When patients come to our office with complaints of facial pain near their ears or jaw, we immediately complete a full diagnosis to determine the root of their pain. Once we know exactly what the issue is, we will act on it and suggest the absolute best methods of therapy.

TMJ Therapy

The temporomandibular joints, called TMJ, are the joints and jaw muscles that function to open and close your mouth. The TMJ works together when you chew, speak, and swallow. It controls the lower jaw as it moves in every direction. Each TMJ has a disc between the ball and socket. The disc acts as a cushion to soften the load while enabling the jaw to open widely and rotate or glide. Any problem in this system of muscles, ligaments, discs and bones from working properly may result in temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD).

TMD Therapy

TMD can present as pain, popping, or clicking noises when opening and closing the mouth. It can cause headaches, jaw, and facial pain. Possible causes of TMD are (but not limited to) : arthritis, dislocation, injury, tooth and jaw misalignment, stress, and teeth grinding.

Commonly misdiagnosed or overlooked, a subtle misalignment in the temporomandibular joint can be a common & significant source of head & neck pain. TMD can often mimic tooth aches, which is why it is essential to work with a dentist to properly diagnose and treat TMD. If you have frequent & severe head or neck pain, you owe it to yourself to investigate our doctor’s life-changing approach to correcting these TMJ problems. We will work closely with you to determine the source of your pain and find a treatment option to provide relief.
